Hello
Angels, Bosley, Mr. X and the Unamed One,
I’ll
start off by congratulating Matt Kenseth on his first and last NASCAR
Winston Cup Championship. I’ll
explain that comment in a minute. Kenseth
has dominated the season, not with wins, but with consistency.
I’ve said it many times this year that consistency wins
championships, and it definitely paid off for Kenseth and Robby Reiser,
Kenseth’s crew chief. I’ll
also send out some congratulations to Kenseth’s car owner, Jack Roush
on his first and also last Winston Cup Championship.
For Roush, he’s waited much longer than Kenseth did for his
first championship.
Ok,
so why is this their last Winston Cup Championship?
Winston-Salem pulled its sponsorship of NASCAR’s premiere
racing series at the conclusion of the 2003 season. Next year’s season
marks the beginning of the NASCAR Nextel Series Championship, and an end
to AT&T sponsoring in the premiere series because of the deal
allowed by NASCAR.
Ok,
so let’s talk about some on-track action that happened in today’s
Pop-Secret 400 at North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham.
First
there were a lot of cautions, which always seemed to come out when
green-flag pit stops were being made.
This happened three times trapping a lot of drivers one, two or
even three laps down. One
driver, Jeff Gordon, got trapped on all three of those types of
cautions. He sealed his own
fate earlier though when he was racing Ryan Newman for position.
Newman and Gordon were racing each other hard, when Newman got
loose and hit the wall. He
then turned his car into Gordon’s, banging down the side of it.
Gordon, like any of the drivers, didn’t care for that tactic
and on the corner, bumped Newman and sent him into a spin.
Newman
didn’t hurt anything, but Gordon for his actions, was penalized a lap
for rough driving. While
Gordon admitted that he did it, how different is that from when Dale
Earnhardt purposely spun Terry Labonte for the win during the night race
in Martinsville a few years ago. In
that race though, the race was in the white flag lap.
This race, there were three hundred laps left.
Gordon managed to get on the lead lap again, but as I’ve
mentioned before got caught in all three cautions after pitting during a
green-flag run.
Congratulations
to Bill Elliott for his win today.
Elliott, with teammate Jeremy Mayfield and Jimmie Johnson
combined to lead most of the race.
Johnson finished second, while Mayfield finished third.
All I have to say is look out for the Ray Everham owned Dodges
next season because this season they’ve definitely undergone a
transformation that makes them (whom I believe) are the teams to beat
next year.
One
more thing before I move on to our results for this week’s race.
Kris sent all of you a message to let you know that I was on
another secret mission last week. While
I was still planning on doing a commentary for the Phoenix race last
week, circumstances beyond my control barred me from putting one
together. Congratulations
to Jill for your dominating team’s performance once again.
And, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Kelly’s teams
self-destruction.
So,
on to this week’s Charlie’s Angels’ Fantasy League results.
Kelly,
unfortunately for you, you continue your downward spiral as the 2003
Winston Cup season winds down. Mark
Martin was doing well even though he missed his pit-stall during a
green-flag pit stop. He
however brought out the one of those caution flags that I talked about
two-laps after pitting though. His
engine let go and he dropped a bunch of oil on the track.
He finished 41. Joe Nemachek finished his old team’s car
number, 25. Nemachek’s old teammate, Jeff Gordon, finished 22, three
laps down. Terry Labonte
did decent and finished 12, while his brother, Bobby finished eighth.
Your Charlie’s Angel’s Golden Caboose Award winning average
finish is 21.6. Let’s
hope that you have a great finish next week for the close of the 2003
Winston Cup Series and final race for the Winston Cup.
Tiffany,
your drivers didn’t do that much better.
Michael Waltrip is your worst driver after he too lost an engine.
Waltrip finished 37. John
Andretti was off the lead lap early and finished five-laps down in 30.
Gordon finished 22, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished 13.
Your top driver today is Johnson and his second place finish.
Your average finish is 20.8.
Better luck next week.
Unamed
One, Dale Jarrett and Ricky Rudd teamed up once again, but this time
against you because they finished 38 and 40 respectively.
This really hurt you considering that your remaining drivers,
Greg Biffle, Newman and Kenseth finished 11, fifth and fourth
respectively. Your average
finish is what I’d call disappointing at 19.6.
Better luck next week.
Bosley
and Kris, your two teams tied for our fifth spot on the Charlie’s
Angel’s line-up this week.
Kris
I’ll start with you. Kevin
LaPage was your only driver not finishing in the top-25.
He finished 42 after his engine blew up early in the race.
Gordon finished 22, while Earnhardt Jr. and Terry Labonte
finished 13 and 12 respectively. Your
top driver is today’s race winner, Elliott.
Bosley,
Waltrip was your only driver not to finish in the top-25.
He finished 37. Rusty
Wallace finished 23, three laps down, while Todd Bodine, despite a
penalty, finished 16. You
top-two drivers, Tony Stewart and Newman finished ninth and fifth.
Your
average finishes Kris and Bosley is an even 18.
Better luck next week.
Sabrina,
Ken Schrader was in the top-10 late in the race when he was bounced into
the wall and out of the race. He
finished 36. Robby Gordon
finished 20, while Earnhardt Jr. finished 13.
Your top-two drivers are Stewart in ninth and Johnson in second.
Your average finish is a nice, 16 even.
Good luck next week.
For
me, Andretti was my worst driver today finishing 30.
Jeff Gordon finished 22, while Terry Labonte finished 12. My two best drivers are Kenseth in fourth and Johnson in
second. My average finish
is a nice (if I do say so myself…J)
14 even.
Jill,
while you dominated last week again, you fell just short of the top-spot
this week. Brian Vickers
had a great starting position but quickly found himself on the loosing
streak of more experienced Winston Cup drivers.
He finished 24. Vicker’s
teammate Jeff Gordon finished two spots ahead in 22.
Stewart finished ninth, Newman finished fifth and Johnson
finished second. Your
average finish this week is still a great 12.4.
Nice job.
Mr.
X, that leaves you to be our TOP ANGEL AWARD winner this week.
Your worst driver today is Kurt Busch who finished 17 today
despite an early crash. Earnhardt
Jr. finished 13, while Biffle and Sterling Marlin finished 11 and 10
respectively. Your
top-driver today is this year’s Winston Cup Champion, Kenseth in
fourth. Your TAA winning
average finish is a nice, 11 even.
Ok,
Angel’s one more race to decide our final spot for the third segment,
and the overall winner of the Charlie’s Angels’ Fantasy League for
the 2003 season.
Here
are the results after last week’s Phoenix race.
Next
week’s final race of the 2003 and Winston Cup era is the Ford 400 at
Homestead-Miami International Raceway in Florida.
Don’t forget to make any changes to your teams’ line-up by
Thursday, Nov. 13 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
Good
luck next week Angels,
Charlie
